Honoré de Balzac, Autograph letter signed.
October 15 [1838], 1p 1/2 in-8, autograph address, seal with the Balzac d'Entraigues coat of arms.
To Caroline Couturier de Saint-Clair (1794-1847): "[...] I will always be at your service for anything, and when I come to Paris I will be delighted to drop in on you, I only fear that my hours will not suit you. I hope that soon I will be able to bring you some work, as time and interests press me on this point[...]".
Caroline Rumbold (1794-1847), an Englishwoman, had married Count Adolphe Couturier de Saint-Clair in 1828. Balzac had met Mme Couturier de Saint-Clair in Poissy, and she had proposed a treaty for translations of his works with English magazines, as well as the performance of his theatrical works on English-language stages. He read L'École des ménages at her home in early March 1839.
