Honoré de Balzac, Autograph letter signed.
October 29, 1831, 1p in-8, autograph address.
To Urbain Canel (1789-1867): "Illustre éditeur des contes bruns, soyez à 11h 1/2, demain chez Rabou ou sinon vous serez maudit. And my gloves? Mille choses aimables à la miss. T to vs. Balzac".
Urbain Canel, Balzac's partner in 1825 in the Molière and La Fontaine ventures, was publisher and friend to Lamartine, Hugo, Latouche, Balzac, Nodier, Chasles, Musset and others. Marie Mennessier-Nodier judged him as follows: "An amiable and honest man, a literary organizer if ever there was one, perhaps too literary for a bookseller who wanted to like what he published".
