Honoré de Balzac, Modeste Mignon ou les trois amoureux.
Paris, Hippolyte Souverain, 1845. In-8, 326p.
First edition of volume IV only, published around January 9, 1845, at the same time as volume III. It therefore contains the end of the first edition of Les Trois amoureux (p.5 to 195), the third, revised edition of Un épisode sous la Terreur (p.197 to 260) and the second, revised edition of Une passion dans le désert.
This edition, by Chlendowski, was shared with several booksellers. It was printed by Moussin in Coulommiers, and the faux-titres and titles by different printers, depending on the bookseller. Souverain was printed by Dépée in Sceaux.
It should also be noted that volumes 1 and 2 were published on November 16, 1844, but without a title page or false-title. It is highly probable that the 1845 copies of these volumes are the 1844 print run, to which were attached the faux-tittre and title of the booksellers sharing the edition.
Paper boards, paper missing from spine, page edges browned, some foxing.
