Honoré de Balzac, Paméla Giraud, play in five acts.
Paris, Marchand & Bruxelles, Tarride, [1843]. In-8, 26p.
First edition of this play, recorded on October 28, 1843. Balzac's manuscript, written in 1840, included only four acts and a prologue, and was adapted for the stage by Bayard and Jaime. Double-column printing, with a vignette on the first page depicting the 1st scene of Act 5.
At the time of the premiere, Balzac was in Russia, but the reworking "was probably done with Balzac's agreement, if not collaboration" (René Guise, Théâtre II. Les bibliophiles de l'Originale, 1969. p.698).
Paperback, yellow cover, minor edgewear.
A rare and good copy.
