Volkswagen Golf Cabriolet
Succeeding the legendary Beetle Cabriolet, the Golf 1, derived from the sedan, appeared in 1979.
It was equipped with the same powertrains as its closed sibling, 4-cylinder engines with displacements of 1.1 to 1.8 liters, and power ratings ranging from 70 to 112 hp, depending on the engine. 4-speed, 5-speed or automatic gearboxes.
Manufactured by Osnabruck coachbuilder Karmann, this car's special feature is a fixed rollover bar - a first. With safety laws becoming increasingly stringent, particularly in the USA, this device stiffens the body to prevent it from being crushed in the event of a rollover.
Manufactured until 1993, with very few cosmetic alterations, this cabriolet version was a huge success for Volkswagen, selling over 389,000 units - more than the Beetle Cabriolet!
While the saloon became the Golf 2 in 1983, the convertible version retained its original shape until the Golf 3.
The model presented here was launched in 1992. It has 145,000 km on the clock and is in very good condition. Its beige leather combined with bottle-green metallic bodywork makes it an enviable car. It has benefited from a major overhaul, including a new soft top.
