Shooting or dueling set by the prestigious Maison "Devisme à Paris". This necessary case in rosewood veneer contains, mounted in the French style on a bed of almond-green velvet, a fine pair of percussion pistols with lock at the front. Octagonal barrels rifled to 38 balls per pound caliber, the barrels are beautifully inlaid with gold thread in Gothic script "DEVISME BREVETE A PARIS", a fillet of gold foliage inlay separates the barrel from the engraved, packet-tempered breech plug, Another simple gold thread inlay also highlights the muzzle, the barrels retain almost all their original tan and are firmly secured to the frame by a drawer in the tile under the barrels. Trimmed in gray temper, flat plate body engraved with foliage scrolls in suite with the hammer. Finger rest trigger guard, prominent cap with faded facets. Beautiful Renaissance walnut frame, hand-polished and carved with decorative scrolls on the hood. The case contains all the accessories needed for the shooter's autonomy, namely : Two strong sticks, one with its head missing, an ebony mallet, a reversible chimney screwdriver/driver on a smooth ebony handle, a single-cavity round bullet mold that doesn't conform to the caliber, a metering device, an ebony primer box, a cardboard primer box and a compartment for bullets and cloth, the lid of which is replaced by a cut-out wooden plate. The inside of the box lid bears a fine gilded marking with the usual misspelling "DEVISME 26 BOULEVART DES ITALIENS ARQUEBUSIER BREVETE". The traces of the pistols and accessories have slightly marked the velvet of the lid, whose fabric is discolored in places. A very fine case from the workshop of one of the finest gunsmiths of his time (circa 1860).
