TAHAN, 30 rue de la Paix à Paris - Jean Pierre Alexandre TAHAN (1813-1892)
Chased, silvered and gilded bronze jewelry box with chimeras at the four corners. Hinged lid surmounted by a mother-of-pearl shell in closed setting.
Interior lined with red velvet.

A "supplier to the King and Princes", in 1849 he won a silver medal at the Exposition des Produits de l'Industrie and became known as "the prince of small cabinetmaking". In 1855, he was named "Supplier to the Emperor".
He left the Temple district in 1849 to set up store on rue de la Paix, which he closed in 1866.
