Olympic Games/ summer, 1900/ Fire brigade. Commemorative medal. These second Olympic Games in Paris were so well supported by the Exposition Universelle, that it completely absorbed and liquefied them, to the point of wanting to beef up the Athens program too much, at the risk of distorting it. As a result, more than 40,000 "sportsmen" found themselves involved in this giant fantasia... From lifesaving competitions to car rallies on Toulouse, drumming contests, motorboating events and even angling (Ile des Cygnes) or cannon-firing (Satory) competitions, not to mention tug-of-war, which now seems quite orthodox, there was something for everyone at this great fair, where amateurs and professionals even crossed swords in athletics and the like. This beautiful round bronze medal brings us back to the "famous" fire pump competition...
