A South German wheellock hunting rifle, circa 1650
The octagonal barrel with five-groove rifled bore in 12 mm caliber. Dovetailed iron sights. The lock fitted with an external wheel and mounted, closed wheel cover. The spring-loaded pan cover with a release button. The lock plate struck with "BK" and a trefoil. Set trigger, the release does not engage. Iron trigger guard. The full shaft made of fruitwood with lavish inlays of engraved and blackened bone. The nosepiece damaged on the side. Depictions of various native wild animals amidst blossoms and leafy vines. Spring-locked patch-box cover with engraved depiction of a stag. Unassociated ramrod with bone tip. Length 110 cm.
