A finely embossed French classicistic casket, circa 1780
Rectangular, leather-covered fruitwood casket on four ball feet (one replaced). Very finely embossed acanthus and oak leaf decoration over the entire surface. An underglaze miniature after Claude Joseph Vernet in the center of the lid with cut corners. Keyhole border decorated with lilies on the front. Silk-lined interior, the original mirror glass framed by a velvet border. The key is enclosed. Moisture damage to one corner of the lid, the lower part of the box somewhat worm-eaten. Slightly rubbed in places. Dimensions 7.5 x 19 x 11 cm.
