KOTA Reliquary (ZAIRE) Reliquary figure in wood covered with brass plates. The perimeter of the mask and around the face are hammered in repoussé relief, the eyebrows hammered in hollow. The mask is crowned with a crescent, inverted under the chin. Height 51.5cm (accidents, wear and tear, missing left horn of upper crescent) confer: Josef Mueller Collection. Christie's March 20, 1979. N° 134. An identical KOTA reliquary by the same artist (with the same accidents and missing parts) sold in Versailles on March 16, 1997.
