Small late Gothic plate, brass and copper, partly enameled. Round, slightly hollowed center with wide rim. Engraved decoration in relief in the form of extremely fine, ornamented foliate scrolls. Central mirror and six polychrome enamelled round medallions with stylized flower rosettes on the rim. D. 20 cm. With the round medallion set into the center of the mirror, the plate is reminiscent of the sacrificial bowls of antiquity, the so-called "patera" or "phiale", as well as the cymbal bowls made in the 16th century. Cf. Lockner, Messing, 1982, pp. 73-74, figs. 121, 122 (two cymbal bowls from Venice with engraved decoration). A small Italian Gothic parcel enamelled brass and copper plate. Italy. Venice. Late 16th century.
