After the well-known ancient Roman marble sculpture of the 1st/2nd century AD discovered in 1792 (itself a copy of a Greek Hellenistic original of the 2nd century BC) in the Louvre in Paris. H. 27.5 cm. French sculptor active 19th C.; Dark brown patinated bronze. Cast by Ferdinand Barbedienne, Paris (inscribed "F. BARBEDIENNE, FONDEUR").
