14K (585/1000) gold and silver "firmament" ring set with approx. 18 old-cut diamonds on a midnight-blue enamel background (split) Swan hallmark and scallop shell TDD: 57 Gross weight: 6.2g In the second half of the 18th century, rings with a midnight-blue enamel background studded with diamonds became increasingly popular. Marie-Antoinette, after her coronation in 1774, wore a copy of this jewel, as evidenced by Adolph Ulric Wertmüller's painting of her with her children in the gardens of the Trianon at Versailles. The ring, also known as the "ring of heaven", has given rise to various theories as to its symbolism, including a renewed interest in astronomy. A similar ring is now in the Walter Albert Arts Museum in Baltimore, testifying to the heritage and timeless appeal of celestial jewelry.
