JACOPO DI CIONE (In the taste of). Known in Florence from 1365 to 1398. Late 19th - early 20th century. Movable triptych of The Virgin and Child between two saints. Left panel: The angel of the Annunciation. Saint Catherine of Alexandria, Saint John the Baptist, Saint Elizabeth of Hungary and Saint Anthony the Abbot; Right panel: The Virgin of the Annunciation. Christ on the Cross with the Virgin, Saint John the Evangelist, Saint Magdalene and four angels. Tempera and punched gold background. Canvas pasted on panel. Painted reverse and border. (Slight delamination around the left edge of the left flap). Height: 68.5 cm Width Left: 18.8 cm; Middle: 40 cm; Right: 20.5 cm. Based on a composition by Jacopo di Cione (c. 1360 - 1365) in the Galleria dell' Academia in Florence (Cf. Dipinti, Volume Primo, Dal Duecento a Giovanni Milano. Miklos Boskovits and Angelo Tartuferi; no. 20, pp. 116 - 121 - Firenze 2003).
