Lucebert (Lubertus Jacobus Swaanswijk) (1924 Amsterdam - 1994 Alkmaar)
"The Guardian". Original title
Expressive, colorful composition that depicts figures in an abstract manner characteristic of Lucebert. The Dutch artist, who abandoned his studies at the Amsterdam School of Arts and Crafts after just six months and continued his education as a self-taught artist, was a co-founder of the "Experimentele Groep in Holland" in 1948, an association of young poets and painters who opposed the rigid, prevailing aesthetic and called for the free development of their artistic principles. At the same time, he participated - mainly as a poet - in the internationally renowned "CoBrA" group. In addition to several solo exhibitions, he showed his work at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam and at documenta II and III in Kassel, among others. Collaged mixed media with gouache, India ink, opaque white/paper. L. u. signed and dat. 4 IX (19)69. 27 cm x 21 cm. Frame.
Provenance: Ohse Gallery, Bremen.
Mixed media on paper. Signed and dated 4 IX (19)69. Inscribed with title on a lable on the reverse.
