Scene from the Napoleonic Wars and the Wars of Liberation. Monten's detailed work, executed in a very finely glazed style, stands out for its highly lively, narrative depiction. Monten, who studied under Peter Hess at the Munich Academy from 1821, specialized in motifs with battles from the era of Napoleon I and in depictions of uniforms, which he also translated into lithographs. His collectors and patrons included King Ludwig I of Bavaria and Tsar Nicholas I of Russia. Oil on canvas; l. a. signed a. dated. 1832. 29.5 cm x 37 cm. Original frame.
