Breslau baroque cabinet masterpiece. Walnut, partially carved and veneered in relief. Inlays of various woods such as maple. Straight, rectangular body, flanked by wide, angled corner pilasters with applied pilasters and sculpturally designed, Corinthian capitals on a two-tier frame base and canted baluster feet. In the articulated front, two large doors with profiled cushion fillings with large inlaid allegorical figures under canopies. Extremely richly designed, openwork lock with leaf decoration in relief covering the entire surface. Wide, projecting cornice with trapezoidal gable, cranked at the corners. Broadly framed veneer panels covering the entire surface and rich inlaid decoration on the front consisting of cornucopias, shell and scrollwork and juxtaposed scrolls. H. 223 cm. 204 cm x 78 cm. Enclosed note from the original owner: "Anno 1767 I bought this cabinet for 20 Louis ducats it was a masterpiece which God forbid fire and damage. Carl Maximilian Powalsky. Gold and silver work in Breslau." The cabinet corresponds to the type that was required by the Wroclaw guild between 1740 and 1808 to obtain the title of master craftsman. A group of Silesian cabinets of this type is now kept in the National Museum in Wroclaw. One example is in the collection of the Germanisches Nationalmuseum, inv. no. HG 11271. Cf.
