Old Kirman tapestry in Egyptian style Persia. Circa 1940. Wool on cotton. The beige central field with an all-over depiction of an Egyptian ruler on a throne. Surrounded by a wide, red-ground border with a stylized reed leaf decoration. 106 cm x 140 cm.
Carpets of this type were made around the same time as the first marriage of Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi to the Egyptian princess Fausia bint Fu'ad in 1939.
