Jan Frans van Bloemen known as the Horizon
(Antwerp 1662-Rome 1749)
Landscape with Church Oil on canvas 51x68 cm - with frame 75x93 cm A small church emerges alone at the side of a country path among the lush foliage of a clearing. The scene is populated by a series of shepherds dressed in ancient fashion, with colored tunics. The clear sky, with a hint of sunset that seems to come from the left of the canvas with its pink and orange tones, indicates that the author can only be Jan Frans van Bloemen, known as the Horizon, precisely because of his great ability in rendering the Roman skies.
