Niccolò Tornioli (attributed to)
(Siena 1598-Rome 1651)
Roman Charity oil on canvas 135x98 cm
Our painting is a replica of the original, today at the Museu de Montserrat, and attributed, with autograph note, by Federico Zeri in the slide photo at his Photo Library.
Having moved to Rome in 1635, after training in Siena under the banner of Caravaggio's painting, Tornioli soon earned commissions of primary importance, becoming among other things the protégé of Cardinal Bernardino Spada.
