17th century painter Saint Jerome Oil on canvas 77x103 cm - in frame 94x121 cm The painting depicting this Saint Jerome, of great quality, should be included as a work by a painter living in Rome or Naples in the second half of the seventeenth century. The stylistic references are undoubtedly the Caravaggist artists such as Hendrik van Sommer and the Roman painting of Giacinto Brandi. The saint's musculature is depicted pictorially with great skill, the tense muscles, tendons and fingers are rendered with extreme anatomical precision, while the beard and hair are described with meticulous brushstrokes
