Pair of round lidded tureens with Watteau painting Porcelain, camaieu decoration in iron red, sea green, gilding. Model 674, royal smooth. With shell handles and a large sculpted rose blossom as a lid knob. Both vessels decorated with four courtly couples on terrain islands and flower bouquets, the figure motifs after Antoine Watteau and others. Blue sceptre mark, incised III, impressed numbers. The rose pommels restored, minor gold wear. H 23.5, w 28.5 cm. Berlin, KPM, around 1775 - 80. The service with iron-red absorbent cotton painting has not yet been attributed to a patron or recipient. A plate probably belonging to the same service was sold in the Lempertz Berlin auction on 2nd May 2015 as lot 48. Provenance Acquired from Daniela Kumpf, Wiesbaden. West German private collection.
