Cup with the three emperors Solid clear glass with cut, matt deep cut and gilding. Platter base with a wreath of gilded olive leaves on the underside. Faceted shaft and polygonal conical dome. Engraved on the reverse "Kaiser Wilhelm I Friedrich III Wilhelm II". Minimal gold rubbing. H 22.8 cm. The glass attributed to Steinschönau (Kamenický Šenov), the cut possibly Karl Pfohl, 1888. 1888 went down in Prussian history as the "Year of the Three Emperors". Emperor Wilhelm I, proclaimed in Versailles in 1871, died on March 9. He was succeeded as Emperor Frederick III by his son Frederick William, who was already seriously ill with throat cancer. Frederick died on June 15 after 99 days of reign. His eldest son Frederick William now ascended the throne as Emperor William II.
