Nimbed St. John the Baptist, standing front. ♦ Fr 65; Boudeau 1430; de Saulcy (Bar) IV, 11 Saint Mihiel gold florin (undated) (3.51 g) Wide flan. Very rare. Slight grafitti on reverse. A very fine example. JEANNE de Brabant was born on June 24, 1322 and died in Brussels on December 1, 1406. She was the daughter of Jean III, Duke of Brabant and Limbourg, and Marie d'Évreux. She was Duchess of Brabant and Limbourg from 1355 to 1406. In 1334, she married Guillaume II de Hainaut (1307 † 1345), Count of Hainaut and Holland. Widowed, she remarried in March 1352 to WENCESLAS I of Bohemia (1337 † 1383), Duke of Luxembourg. When this marriage was promised (1347), there was no question of Jeanne de Brabant succeeding her father at the head of the Duchy of Brabant: she had three brothers ahead of her in the order of succession. It was only after the death of the last of John III's sons, shortly after February 3, 1352, that she became her father's heiress.
