"[ÎLE BOURBON (RÉUNION)]. Jean-Baptiste Antoine PRAT, landowner and farmer on Bourbon Island. Bourbon; he was the son of the director of the Sainte-Pélagie prison (1781-1843). 8 autograph letters signed to his great-cousin, Robert Richard O'REILLY (c. 1800-1876), political opponent imprisoned for his participation in the 1832 insurrection, then Secretary of the Prefecture of Police in 1848, and finally a greenhouse manufacturer under the Empire. 36 pp. in-4. Saint-Pierre, Saint-Paul, Saint-Joseph (Bourbon Island), 1843-1870. Two letters with address on back and postmarks (one is stamped). Also very interesting correspondence talking about his life in Bourbon and his activities, particularly on the subject of opium. Extract: "Saint-Joseph, May 30, 1870.
