"Mayerhofer & Klinkosch. Covered goblet or Pokal in silver and vermeil with a lustrous, amber patina. Taking the form of a Medici vase, the cup is adorned with a richly chased decoration, a tribute to the arts of the Renaissance with the evocation of the liberal arts and the muses represented in the form of women dressed in antique style. The lid, richly decorated with Baroque foliage and shells, features three seated allegories: Music, Astronomy and Rhetoric. While the lower, swollen part of the bowl gives way to leafy reserves decorated with attributes of the arts (masks and musical instruments), the central part, with its Baroque ornamentation, is composed of niches set against a gold background, from which stand out silvered female figures, allegories of the arts, all surmounted by a shell motif. The entire surface of the bowl, from the foot to the lid, is richly decorated with arabesques, curves and foliage. Vienna, 1840 (Vienna 1840 and goldsmith's hallmarks). Total weight: 2kg742. H.44 cm.
