Henry Cros (1840 - 1907). Portrait of Jeannine Dumas, daughter of Alexandre Dumas fils. Polychrome wax medallion. Interlaced monogram "HC" on reverse, in sepia ink. Circa 1872. Dim. 12.4x10.4 cm. Ref. In 2006, the Musée d'Orsay acquired a wax portrait of Alexandre Dumas fils' daughter by Henri Cros, dated 1872. The notice, published on the Musée d'Orsay website concerning the Portrait de Jeannine Dumas in their collection, is reproduced below: "In the work of Henri Cros, brother of the poet Charles Cros, portraits of his contemporaries are far less frequent than fantasy or retrospective portraits. This one was commissioned by Alexandre Dumas fils, the sculptor's first patron, who, from 1869, financed his experiments with polychrome waxes.
