CASPAR JELE - attributed_x001D_ Freidsberg bei Ried/Oberinntal 1814 - 1893 Innsbruck Mary with the infant Jesus on her lap, flanked by two adoring saints. Pencil drawing over -square with curved upper margin. Inscribed "Jele" (signed ?) in the lower right corner. On chamois-colored transparent paper. 13.2 x 15.5 cm. With backed loss in the upper left corner and four further backed, small marginal losses and tears. Slightly stained. The composition, which forms an isosceles triangle, is entirely in keeping with the Nazarene tradition. The artist, who was particularly influenced by Joseph v. Führich, "devoted himself primarily to religious painting and is considered one of its most important representatives from the Nazarene school in German Tyrol" (Thieme-Becker vol. XVIII, p. 486). The composition of the drawing is reminiscent of Führich's painting "Waldesruh" (Madonna with Child, St. Adelheid and St. Francis) from 1835, which is in the collection of the Belvedere, Vienna. [bg]
