Commentary:
A committed Syrian artist and political refugee, Mounif Ajaj has been part of the collections of the Brisith Museum since 2011, the Atassi Foundation for Art and Culture and the Ministry of Culture in Damascus.
His critical work aims to transcribe fears and establishes a face-to-face relationship between aggressors and victims. The year 2008 marks an important milestone in the artist's pictorial expression, as it marks a shift from abstraction to figuration in her painting. The expressiveness of the bodies and movement in this work place the artist in an approach initiated by the fathers of Syrian pictorial Modernity, including founding members of the Aleppo School such as Fateh Al Moudarres, Louay Kayali, Mahmoud Hammad and, more recently, Safwan Dahoul.
