Competition winners Théodore Ballu and Edouard de Perthes collaborated between 1873 and 1882 on the reconstruction of the Paris City Hall. The Hôtel de Ville had been burnt down during the Commune. Ballu and Perthes chose to rebuild the central Renaissance section identically, enlarging and raising it.
