CAPITAINE, Louis; CHANLAIRE, Pierre-Gilles Carte chorographique de la Belgique en soixante neuf feuilles dressée d'après celle de Ferraris [...]. Paris chez l'auteur-propriétaire P.G. Chanlaire an V = 1796 In-f°: title, 68 ff. (soiling to title and margins of qqs ff., qqs russ., rather marg.). Contemporary half basane, marbled paper boards, smooth spine (upper board detached, heavy wear). Second edition (1st published under the name of L. Capitaine alone) of the detailed atlas of Belgium by Capitaine (1749-1797) and Chanlaire (1758-1817). Contrary to the statement on the title, the atlas comprises 67 (65 + 53 bis + 58 bis) maps and 1 small general assembly map, dated An V [1796-1797], which indicates the relationship between the present map on the one hand, and the "Grande Carte de France" (= Cassini map) and that of Belgium (= Ferraris map) on the other, so as to be able to "reunite sheets taken indistinctly" from either edition.The engraved title reads: "Gravé par Mlle Bellanger" ("Engraved by Miss Bellanger").
