BATMAN Subway (59" x 44.5") Near Mint Folded; Artwork by Bill Garland Warner Bros., 1989 This is a very scarce format for the Tim Burton retelling of the Super Hero fantasy thriller. Batman is a 1989 film based on the Batman DC Comics superhero created in 1939. It was directed by Tim Burton and starred Michael Keaton, Jack Nicholson, Kim Basinger, and Jack Palance, among others. It depicted Batman's war on crime and his ongoing conflict with The Joker, his archenemy, and earned more than $400 million, the fifth-highest-grossing film in history at that point. Nicholson was nominated for a Golden Globe Award, and the film won the Academy Award for Best Art Direction. The American Film Institute (AFI) voted it the 46th greatest movie hero and the Joker the 45th greatest movie villain on its 100 Years…100 Heroes and Villains list.
