FRANCISCO GALOFRE OLLER (Valls, Tarragona, 1865 - Barcelona, 1942). "Cove of Sant Feliu de Guixols". Oil on canvas. Signed and dated in the lower right corner. Work cataloged in "Francesc Galofré Oller. Més enllá del borill avall", Museum of Valls, May 2023, page 212. The lot includes this catalog. Measurements: 60 x 100 cm; 68 x 108 cm (frame). A disciple of Antonio Caba, Francisco Galofre trained at the Academia Borrell, at the Escuela de La Lonja and finally at the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in Madrid. He specialized in historical and religious themes, which he produced in large formats, and also cultivated genre scenes and portraits. Within the latter genre it is worth mentioning his portraits of the generals Orgaz and Ros de Olano. Among his works, the canvas representing Christopher Columbus receiving the Catholic Monarchs, which he painted for the Salón de Sant Jordi of the Diputación de Barcelona, stands out. He combined painting with art criticism, which he practiced in the newspaper "Las Noticias". Since 1888 he participated in numerous group exhibitions and art contests, both in Barcelona and Madrid. He regularly attended the National Fine Arts Exhibitions, obtaining a certificate of honor in 1887, a second medal in 1892 and 1895, and a decoration in 1912. He was also distinguished with honorable mention at the Universal Exhibition of Barcelona in 1893, with a medal at the International Exhibition of Chicago that same year, medal at the International Exhibition of Barcelona in 1907, gold medal at the Hispano-French Exhibition of Zaragoza in 1908, gold medal at the International Exhibition of Santiago de Compostela in 1909 and medal at the International Exhibition of Panama in 1916. His works are in the Museums of Modern Art of Madrid and Barcelona, as well as in the Army Museum and the Museum of Valls, among others.
