In this coastal landscape the author has achieved a remarkable lyrical force with the use of brownish and earthy tonalities varnishing the rugged coast and contrasting with the crystalline transparencies of the calm sea. The water has been resolved through a skilful use of glazes and a great technical interest in the effects of the waves and the transparency of the water on the sand.
