Vassilis KATTOS Cypriot, b.1947 Shepherd with his flock, 1992 oil on canvas signed and dated 3/92 lower right 58 x 49 cm 67 x 58 cm (with frame) Provenance private collection, Cyprus Note Note Vassilis Kattos was born in 1947 in Gerolakkos, in the province of Nicosia, Cyprus. After primary school, he attended the Technical School of Nicosia from where he graduated. He furthered his education in Italy, in the field of mechanical engineering. He worked as a mechanical engineering professor. He started painting at a young age. Besides painting, Kattos also delved into sculpture, metalwork, copper engraving, and other art forms. One of his works is the enormous statue of Hephaestus located at the premises of the First Technical School of Nicosia. Vasilis Kattos' paintings are mainly inspired by the Cypriot landscape and countryside. Several of his works also deal with the theme of the Missing Persons of the Turkish invasion. Kattos held numerous individual exhibitions in Cyprus, but also participated in many group exhibitions in Cyprus and abroad. His paintings can be found in public buildings and private collections in Cyprus and abroad.
