Sadi CARNOT, Marie François (1837-1894). French statesman, son of Hippolyte Carnot and grandson of Lazare Carnot. Several times a minister, he became President of the Republic in 1887. He was assassinated by the anarchist Caserio at the 1894 Universal and Colonial Exhibition in Lyon. - L.a.s. "Sadi Carnot" Paris December 12, 1882, 2 pages in-12, on the letterhead of the Chamber of Deputies. To inform the historian of the value of the Opera buildings: "... The land occupied by the Opera has been valued by the Domaine at 11 million. The building as it stands today, with its two unfinished side pavilions, cost 37 million...". Attached, Cécile Sadi CARNOT (1841-1898), L.a.s. s.d, August 25, short letter in which she offers hospitality to Henri Martin, who was to come to Nolay for an inauguration. Also enclosed Hyppolyte CARNOT (1801-1888). A lawyer, he became a radical deputy for Paris and Minister of Public Instruction in 1848. 7 L.a.s. of various dates and places, one to two pages in-8.
