History of the Herbier Waistcoat
Philippe de La Salle, one of Lyon's leading ornamentalists of the mid-18th century, worked directly from nature: flowers, trees, leaves. Our "herbarium" composition is based on an original 18th-century drawing of a carpet of leaves. It corresponds to the taste for natural inspiration in art frequently illustrated by the painter Desportes.
