Tea cup depicting the Blessed Queen Maria Cristina of Savoy
cup 9x12 cm; diameter of saucer 16cm
Provenance:
Royal Collection of the Savoy family in Geneva
-
The precious porcelain, with a rich gold decoration, comes directly from the Royal collection of His Highness Vittorio Emanuele of Savoy, and depicts in the reserve the image of Her Royal Highness Maria Cristina of Savoy, Queen of Naples as the first wife of Ferdinand II of Bourbon.
She died as a result of childbirth on 31 January 1836, giving birth to the last King of Naples, Francis II, and is buried in the Basilica of Santa Chiara.
Popular devotion immediately attributed prodigious miracles to the Queen, conquered by her great goodness and charity, and named her "HOLY QUEEN".
Now her Holiness has been recognized by the Church with the title of Blessed.
