A FINE THANGKA DEPICTING SAMANTABHADRA WITH CONSORT, 18TH-19TH CENTURY Tibet. Distemper and gold on cloth. Mounted as a hanging scroll on a silk brocade frame. Finely painted in bright colors, the central blue-skinned bodhisattva in union with his consort Samantabhadri atop a lotus dais in a lush verdant landscape with a river flowing through the center, the pair encircled by numerous deities, each engulfed in a bring circular nimbus with radiating gold lines. Provenance: Formerly in a private estate in Hamburg, Germany, and thence bequeathed to the Tibethaus Kulturstiftung, Frankfurt, Germany. Condition: Good condition with some wear, light creasing, minor folds, minimal soiling, light fading, and small losses to pigments. The brocade frame in very good condition with minor wear and fading.
