A THANGKA DEPICTING CHATURBHUJA MANJUSHRI, TIBET, 18TH-19TH CENTURY Finely painted, the four-armed deity seated in dhyanasana atop a lotus throne holding in his hands a sword, bow, arrow, and lotus stem coming to full bloom at his shoulder, its petals supporting a book. He is wearing a loose-fitting dhoti and billowing scarves, and richly adorned with fine jewelry. His serene face with heavy-lidded eyes and smiling lips. The hair arranged in a high chignon secured by a foliate tiara. Backed by a red aureole and a radiating dark blue mandorla. The lower register with two seated lamas, one holding a vajra and ghanta and the other a lotus and book, centered by offerings. Provenance: German trade. Condition: Good condition with minor wear, slight fading, minor creasing, light soiling, and tiny losses. Dimensions: Image size 32.5 x 23.5 cm, Size incl. frame 65 x 46 cm Distemper and gold on cloth. Mounted as a hanging scroll with a silk brocade frame.
