HISTOIRE DES QUATRE FILS AYMON très nobles et très vaillans chevaliers. Paris, H. Launette, 1883. In-4, plum morocco with corners, gilt head, cover and spine (Modern binding).
Famous book illustrated by Eugène Grasset, the first to be printed in color using a new photogravure and chromography process invented by Charles Gillot.
Grasset's lavish illustrations, with their historiated frames, are reminiscent of the architecture of medieval manuscripts. His compositions, which cover every page of the book, invade the text, in a complete break with the canons of the illustrated book of the time. The book is thus a precursor of Art Nouveau.
