...Pause. It is the word that appears every time he freezes the image on the screen. A seductive word that makes sense in both English and Italian and may become the very reason for the operation.
For the past few years Scanavino, who in professional life is an esteemed graphic designer, has been giving life to photographic works, which are actually an existential ritual.
We are confronted with a kind of Zen rituality, which stems from an aesthetic rigor certainly, but first and foremost an ethical one: a daily obsession, which becomes a way of life. All the images in this series were made with due slowness, in about two and a half years, with the same chrisms, with the same light, from the same point of view.
The choice of individual images to be blocked is intuitive, unconscious, there is an attraction of a pictorial matrix, which again connects with her graphic approach, of spatial research of a certain kind, thus the contrast, but only apparent, between the duration of the projection and the instantaneousness of the shot. Mara Scanavino is fascinated by the minute dimension, and amateur photo polaroids are, in this sense, perfect.
