An emerald, ruby, sapphire, opal, natural pearl, not tested and diamond pendant, report
This antique jewel gives us a glimpse into the discreet and fascinating history of the Beys of Tunis. Tunisia's beylical regime lasted from the 18th to the mid-20th century. The beys of the Husseinite dynasty, founded by Hussein Bey, were the country's official rulers. The end of the French protectorate (1881 - 1956) in Tunisia also marked the end of this ruling dynasty, which was ousted by a republican regime in 1957. According to family tradition, this imposing piece of jewelry was passed down from a bey of Tunis to the grandfather of its current owner. The bee motif on the pendant is a symbol of tenacity, fertility and abundance in Berber culture. The technique of inlaying this insect reveals a great mastery of the art of glyptics.
