A gold key winding pocket watch by Duchemin with quarter repeating with detent escapement.
This watch is interesting in that it combines both a striking mechanism and a detent escapement, which is rare for the period and in particular for chronometer-type watches.
We also note the FV hallmark on the inside of the case, corresponding to the case-maker Francois Jean Veyrat, who was active from 1817 to 1834 and made numerous watch cases.
An example of a chronometer watch with double barrel and detent escapement by Duchemin is illustrated in Tony Mercer's reference book, Chronometer Makers of the World, p. 132, 1991.
