MADELINE Paul (1863-1920). "Maison en Bretagne", Oil on canvas, signed lower right. Dim. 46 x 55 cm. Framed. A pupil of Chaly, Paul Madeline studied at the Beaux-Arts in Paris. Alongside his studies, he worked in publishing and painted in his spare time. In 1894, following a meal at a friend's house, he discovered Creuse, where he met Maurice Rollinat and Léon Detroy. It was then that Madeline fell under the spell of the area. He would return for several months a year, especially in autumn, and paint the surrounding landscapes. He is one of Creuse's leading painters. Ref. Christophe RAmeix "l'école de Crozant", ed. Lucien Souny 1991 and reed. 2002.
