[DANSE DES MORTS].THE DANCE OF THE DEAD. Engraved after the fresco paintings on the wall of the Cemetery of the Church of St. John in Basel (Basel), published by Birmann & Fils, (1820). Large in-8, half basane, smooth spine (period binding). Bilingual French-German edition drawn and engraved on the original by Mérian. The illustration consists of a title frame on green paper and 43 FIGURES by Chovin after Mathieu Mérian, including one for the Preacher's Warning, 40 for the dance, one for Adam and Eve and one representing a reversible portrait with a smiling human figure in one direction and a skull and crossbones in the other.
