History:
This slip is particularly interesting for its early dating, shortly after Bonaparte's appointment as General-in-Chief of the Army of Italy (12 ventôse An IV), the unidentified objects probably being linked to this new assignment.
Bonaparte stayed at Salicetto from Germinal 28 to 30.
Étienne Nicolas de Calon (1726-1807), geographer and engineer, pursued his military career under the Directoire as head of the map depot, and took part in the Army of the Rhine in 1799.
