- Manuscript, in English, entitled "General Entry Book of French Prisoners of War on Parole at Newtown". 1811-1814. Approx. 18 pp. printed with handwritten additions, in an in-folio register, flipped half basane; worn binding (period binding).
REGISTRE NOMINATIF DES PRISONNIERS SUR PAROLE FRANÇAIS ASSIGNES A RESIDENCE A NEWTOWN dans le Montgomeryshire au Pays-de-Galles. Very detailed, it indicates for each prisoner the date of his capture (between 1802 and 1813), his qualities (military rank, surgeon, privateer), his ship or regiment, his physical identity, the date on which he obtained the status of prisoner on parole, the date of their release (with mention of the authority who gave the order) or the date of their escape (two cases). With a few special remarks on prisoners, mainly their arrest for debt. Note that one military surgeon was accompanied by his wife, son and maid, and that this list includes several Dutchmen captured on the ship Weser (the Netherlands had been annexed by France and divided into departments).
