This is a copy of model 245 offered in the sales catalog of the Fonderie du Val d'Osne, an art foundry founded in 1835 by Jean Pierre Victor André, inventor of ornamental iron casting. The company quickly established ties with fashionable sculptors, commissioning models from them. From 1849 and for some thirty years, Mathurin Moreau produced models of fountains, candelabras and garden statues for the Fonderie du Val d'Osne.
